Is entry to the museum still free of charge?

Yes!

How long can I stay at the museum?

As Andrew Carnegie’s cottage is small, we estimate visitors spend up to 15 minutes there. The much larger memorial hall has much to be seen and there are no restrictions on how long to be here during opening hours.

Is there a specific walking route through the museum?

Our museum displays are set up chronologically from Andrew’s childhood to his legacy. The visitor route begins in the birthplace cottage and continues to the main hall.

Do you accept group bookings or school visits?

Yes. We love school visits and can offer workshops for P1-P7 and bespoke content for all other ages after conversations with the teachers. Find out more about school visits and make a booking on the school pages.

For Groups of up to 10 people we have various tours to offer at a modest fee. If groups are larger than 10 then we need to split them into smaller groups for the cottage portion of the tour. Please email your request to info@carnegiebirthplace.com

Do you have toilets available?

Yes. They include baby changing facilities with nappies available if needed. We also offer free period products.

Do you have a car park?

The car Pay & Display park next to the museum is open and is operated by Fife Council.

You may pay contactlessly for your parking using the free Ring Go App (downloadable for iOS and Android devices).

Do you have a shop?

Yes, we stock items connected with the Carnegie story, Dunfermline and the museum's collection. We have local artists products, often creating unique items to appeal to our wide range of visitors. All profits go directly towards the upkeep of our amazing museum!

Do you have a cloakroom?

Our museum does not have a cloakroom and is unable to store any bags, suitcases or other personal belongings such as children’s scooters.

Do you have a cafe?

We have a coffee machine which uses pouches and is £1 per drink. You are welcome to bring along your own drinks and snacks and enjoy them in our lovely garden or cafe area.
